Michigan vs. Ohio State

The football rivalry that pits Michigan vs. Ohio State, is undoubtedly one of the biggest annual battles -- not only in college football, but in all of sports as well. The rivalry dates back to 1897 and has featured many memorable games throughout the years. The Wolverines won that inaugural meeting, 34-0, and in fact were undefeated against the Buckeyes until 1919, going 13-0-2 during the first fifteen meetings between the two universities. In all, the two schools have battled on the gridiron more than 100 times. Included in those are several thrillers, including a 7-7 tie in 1949, a 12-10 OSU victory in 1974, and a 26-24 U of M triumph in 1986. And, of course, there was Bo Schembechler's astonishing 24-12 upset of Woody Hayes in Bo's first season as Wolverines coach, knocking the top-ranked defending national champions out of title contention and spoiling their dreams of a repeat. Some have dubbed that the biggest win in Michigan football history, and they may well be right.

Michigan vs. Ohio State: The 100th Meeting

Of course, the 2003 Michigan vs. Ohio State game -- the 100th in the rivalry -- was something special as well. The Wolverines entered the contest with a 56-37-6 edge in the all-time series, but they had lost two straight to the Buckeyes. Both teams entered the contest ranked in the top five in both the AP and the Coaches' Polls, and both had Big Ten title aspirations. An NCAA record 112,118 fans were in attendance. The pressure was on. Fortunately, the Wolverines were up to the challenge, jumping out to a 21-0 lead and holding off a late OSU rally to earn a 35-21 victory. Quarterback John Navarre threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Braylon Edwards, and running back Chris Perry torched the top-ranked rushing defense in the country for 154 yards and a pair of scores in the win. It was Michigan's first outright Big Ten title since 1997.
