Michigan Football Record

Just looking at the all-time Michigan Football record of 849 wins, 279 losses and 36 ties through the end of the 2005 regular season proves that this is one of the greatest teams in NCAA history. The Wolverines have posted 24 10-win seasons in their history and can lay claim to 42 conference championships and 11 national titles. In addition, they have dominated the Big Ten, currently holding a winning percentage of .731 against their in-conference rivals. But how have they fared against other conferences? They have been equally brilliant. In fact, they hold a winning record against every other conference in college football, as well as against all three current independents (Army, Navy and Notre Dame). Further, the Wolverines have never lost to an opponent from Conference USA or the Mid-American Conference. That, my friends, is sheer unadulterated dominance.

Michigan Football Record in Bowl Games

Bowl games have been somewhat of a different story for the Wolverines. The Michigan football record is not nearly as impressive in the postseason. They are over .500, but not by much. True, the Wolverines won each of their first four bowl games. They downed Stanford 49-0 in the inaugural Rose Bowl in 1902, and would go on to claim Rose Bowl victories over USC, California and Oregon State in 1948, 1951 and 1965, respectively. Overall, however, they are just 8-9 in the Rose Bowl. Their last appearance in that game came in 1998, as Michigan upended Washington State by the final score of 21-16. However, the Wolverines have been to a bowl game following every season since 1975, which is not an accomplishment to be taken lightly. So, historically speaking, while the Wolverines may not be the most accomplished postseason team in the NCAA, it does little to tarnish one of the most prestigious gridiron legacies in Division I college football.
